SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A man accused of damaging and attempting to steal from coin-operated machines at a car wash made his first court appearance on Friday.
According to court documents, 29-year-old Jevante Debates-Sturgeon faces burglary and malicious mischief charges after he allegedly tried to rob a Clean-Auto Carwash in Spokane Valley on Dec. 25 at about 5:30 a.m.
The documents state that Debates-Sturgeon pried open the business’s front door using a pry bar and a power tool. He then used a rope-and-pulley system to pull coin storage boxes from the wash bay machines.
Police located Debates-Sturgeon on Jan. 2 and arrested him, according to court documents.
The damage caused during the incident is estimated at $7,200.
