SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A man was arrested for driving under the influence and crashing into another car in Spokane Valley on Sunday night.
According to the Spokane Valley Police Department, around 8:30 p.m. on August 18, deputies responded to a report of a crash near Wellesley Avenue and Harvard Road. Upon arrival, they discovered that a black Jeep, driven by 27-year-old Nikolas Eaton, had collided with the driver’s side of a silver Kia.
The Kia’s driver told deputies she was traveling westbound on Wellesley with two passengers when she saw Eaton’s Jeep heading toward her in the same lane. She swerved to avoid a head-on crash, but Eaton’s Jeep struck the side of her vehicle.
A witness at the scene reported seeing Eaton swerving and crossing the centerline multiple times before the crash. The witness also noted that Eaton appeared to be accelerating and trying to flee but was unable to due to the damage to his Jeep.
Deputies said that Eaton seemed agitated, was slow to respond to questions, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. He initially refused to exit the vehicle but was eventually removed by Spokane Valley Police Department officers and an officer from Liberty Lake.
Eaton was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of DUI. He has a prior DUI conviction from 2021.
