Spokane Valley SWAT standoff leads to assault and burglary charges for two suspects

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A man and a woman are facing assault and burglary charges following a .

According to court docs, the suspects, who were identified as Kayela Nielsen, 32 and Dustin Walters, 41, appeared in Spokane Superior Court on Tuesday.

Court documents said on Monday the pair were fleeing from police after allegedly threatening and shooting at a man who, they claimed, had “ripped them off” in a drug deal. Walters was arrested at a nearby home, while Nielsen was tracked to a trailer at East Rockwell Avenue and North Adams Road, where she barricaded herself inside before eventually surrendering to police.

Police said that they developed probable cause to arrest both suspects for first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and second-degree assault.

Both Nielsen and Walters are scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 24.
