SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A Spokane Valley woman was arrested after being accused of car theft involving a rented car from Texas.
The incident began when Mogan A. Jewell rented a Dodge Durango SUV in Dallas, TX, on October 21, but did not return it as scheduled.
Jewell explained she intended to rent the vehicle for just one day but became too busy to return it.
Jewell said she was unable to contact the rental company to extend her agreement. She received a message from the company warning that the SUV would be reported stolen if not returned.
Sheriff’s deputies in Spokane Valley were alerted about the reported stolen SUV. They searched the area and found the vehicle in the 2300 block of N. Argonne. Deputies confirmed the Florida license plate before detaining Jewell.
She explained her situation to the deputies, saying she drove the vehicle from Dallas to Spokane.
The Dallas Fort Worth Airport Police department was also informed of the SUV’s recovery, but they too faced challenges in contacting the rental company.
