SPOKANE, Wash. – A woman was arrested in northeast Spokane today after allegedly attempting to break into a home.

According to the Spokane Police Department, today, on Aug. 15, just before noon, officers responded to a home in the 600 block of West Spofford Avenue after a 911 caller reported a woman forcibly entering the home. The caller said the woman threw a brick through a window to gain entry.

The caller also told police that this woman had previously broken into the same home. When officers arrived, they found a broken window and discovered that several doors inside had been barricaded. The investigation revealed the woman’s identity and a court order that prohibited her from being at the house.

Just before 1 p.m., officers tried to contact the woman, but she did not respond. Due to safety concerns, SPD SWAT, K9 units, hostage negotiators, and the air support unit were brought in. Despite repeated efforts to communicate, the woman refused to surrender. Negotiators tried calling and texting her without success.

A search warrant was obtained, and when communication attempts failed, officers used chemical irritants to force her out. The woman eventually surrendered.

Kyza Richardson, 31, was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, violation of a court order, and third-degree malicious mischief. The firearm charge was added after officers found evidence she had possessed a gun inside the house.

Police said that Richardson has an extensive criminal history, including felony convictions for criminal mischief involving a weapon and taking a motor vehicle without permission.
