SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane woman who stabbed a man during a fight in downtown Spokane has reached a plea agreement, according to court docs.
Lavender Port, 21, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault as part of the agreement in January. She was sentenced to six months in jail and 12 months of community custody, with credit for time served.
Court docs said that Port was held for an extended period after violating the conditions of her release and being arrested on a bench warrant in November.
Police said Port stabbed the victim following an altercation in an alleyway.
Officers and medics found the man with serious injuries and transported him to the hospital.
During the investigation, officers learned the victim approached Port and another man, both of whom he knew from a shared living arrangement. The two men began arguing, and the other man punched the victim in the face.
In an attempt to deescalate the situation, the victim handed over his backpack to Port and the man. Port then allegedly pulled a knife from the backpack and stabbed the victim, causing him to flee and seek help.
Police were unable to locate Port until the following day. She was arrested the following Monday and initially faced first-degree assault charges.
