SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane woman was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for stealing over $715k from the Spokane Dermatology Clinic.

Carol Dacaymat Casilla was previously employed at the Spokane Dermatology Clinic from 2020-2023 and had quickly risen through the ranks at the clinic and served as finance director for several years.

Casilla, 25, was found guilty of fraudulently issuing company checks to herself and depositing them into her own personal accounts. She went on to then make electronic funds transfers using company funds toward her personal credit cards.

Court documents showed that Casilla had made fake companies to make the transfers seem legitimate.

“Ms. Casilla betrayed her employer’s trust and stole hundreds of thousands of dollars,” United States Attorney Vanessa Waldref said. “Accountants and financial professionals like Ms. Casilla are given a significant amount of control over a company’s finances.”

Her employment ended in March 2023, following a company-wide internal review, when her alleged schemes were discovered.

The judge in Casilla’s case also sentenced her to 3 years of supervised release, as well as restitution to the victims in the amount of $715,255.09.
