SPOKANE, Wash. — A woman who set fire to a home while another woman and her pets were inside has been sentenced to 21 months in jail.
According to court documents, 38-year-old Jenny Barden will serve 21 months in jail. However, the Spokesman-Review reports she will be released soon, as she has already served most of her sentence in the Spokane County Jail.
Barden pleaded guilty to first-degree arson on Wednesday in exchange for prosecutors dropping an attempted murder charge and six counts of first-degree assault.
said the fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. on North Wall Street in the Garland District. The caller reported someone was trapped inside the burning home, and witnesses on scene said the fire was intentionally set.
Fire crews arrived quickly and saw smoke and flames coming from the home. They immediately began rescue efforts and successfully removed the victim, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to police, Barden set the fire and then fled the scene. She was on the run for nearly two weeks before being arrested.
