SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane woman is urging her neighbors to be vigilant after her home in the Westview neighborhood was broken into over the New Year.

Courtney Edwards, who lives in northwest Spokane, shared her experience after returning from a trip to celebrate the New Year. A neighbor had alerted her about suspicious activity at her home.

Edwards described the scene, saying, “They had pulled everything out of the drawers, closets. They stole 75% of my clothes. Um, they stole family heirlooms, and that’s what I’m really sad about.”

Among the stolen items were an old video camera containing childhood videos and homemade jewelry crafted by her uncle. Edwards expressed her sadness over the loss of these irreplaceable items.

In response to the break-in, Edwards is now installing security cameras and plans to take additional precautions when she leaves home. She emphasized the importance of preventing mail from piling up and informing neighbors of her absence.

Local police recommend similar measures, advising residents to notify neighbors when they will be away and to stop delivery services during that time. They also suggest documenting valuable items with serial numbers or detailed photos to aid in recovery efforts.
