SPOKANE, Wash. – The Mexican & Latin American restaurant that sits in the quiet Indian Trail neighborhood will host America’s Best Restaurants this September.
The owner Jose Gonzalez came to Spokane from Panama in 2001 and has worked in the industry for over 20 years.
Gonzalez wife Michele is originally from Spokane, and they opened up Cantarito with the dream of creating dishes that feel familiar to some but also brand new to others.
While ABR is in town they will showcase their dishes and tell the Gonzales story as independent-owned restaurant owners.
The restaurant has only been open since Nov. 2022, but the Gonzales family says they already feel connected to their community.
In an interview with the Spokane Journal in 2022, Gonzales wife noted the connectivity.
“So many people have told me that the thing they love most about José is that he really makes them feel like family. That’s why we wanted to open in a more residential area that can be home to a family-friendly restaurant, where we can support building a community and keep the feel of being part of a family.” Michele Gonzalez said.
