SPOKANE, Wash. – The historic Looff Carrousel at Riverfront Park is undergoing a digital transformation to restore its iconic band organ.

This effort aims to preserve the enchanting sound of the 1909 Looff Carrousel band organ by converting its original punched-paper roll system to digital MIDI files.

The band organ, known for mimicking the sound of a 60-piece band, will soon utilize these MIDI files to digitize those rolls.

This upgrade will allow the organ to continue playing its classic tunes while maintaining its historic charm.

The Spokane Parks Foundation announced that the organ is set to perform again on the 50th anniversary of the carousel’s placement in Riverfront Park, which will take place next year.

The restoration aims to preserve the carousel’s spirit while incorporating upgrades that enhance its longevity.

The digital conversion will enable the organ to replace its punched-paper rolls with a computer, allowing it to play a wide variety of music, from traditional marches to contemporary songs.

The enchanting sound of the 1909 Looff Carousel Band Organ will be revived through this digital conversion, completing the restoration of the #36 Ruth and Sons band organ.
