Spokane’s Skyway Cafe at Felts Field Airport reportedly a ‘total loss’ after morning fire

The owner shared that after inspection she believes the cafe is a ‘total loss.’

The Skyway Cafe at the Felts Field Airport caught fire early Thursday morning.

According to the Spokane Fire Department the fire started around 4:30 a.m. inside the grease vent. Firefighters quickly responded and extinguished the active flames inside the kitchen.

The flames were knocked down quickly, but crews are still facing heavy smoke.

SFD say that airport operations and general scheduled airfare won’t be affected by the fire, but the restaurant operations will.

No update has been given on the condition or repair times, but the fire department did say the restaurant will be closed.

East Rutter Avenue is closed from North Fancher Road to North Dora Road as crews remain on scene.

Crews remains on scene while they continue to assess damage and fight the smoke.

No one was hurt in the incident and investigators are on scene working to find the cause of the fire.

The owner of the cafe, Sandy Melter, says she has yet to see the damage and cannot say when the restaurant will reopen. She did indicate that the repairs could take months to fix and will have better information once the investigation is completed.
