STEHEKIN, Wash. – A public meeting will be held next week for residents of Stehekin, located next to Lake Chelan, to discuss the next steps regarding the Pioneer Fire, which has burned 1,756 acres of land.
According to a spokesperson from the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18. Additional details will be provided as they become available, and the meeting will be conducted in person only.
According to the National Forest Service fire crews are continuing to make progress on structural protection efforts between Prince Creek and Canoe Creek. A second fire crew will be inserted today to aid in the protection of structures and recreation infrastructure between Meadow Creek and Moore Creek.
The National Forest Service added that aviation resources logged 26 hours of flight time Thursday, transporting 50 passengers, 54,000 gallons of water and 12,000 pounds of cargo.
, initially covered 10-15 acres and expanded to 300 acres by the weekend before reaching . Firefighters are actively working to contain the blaze, while level 3 evacuation orders remain in the Rex Creek area. Currently, no structures are threatened by the fire.
Level 3 evacuation status indicates immediate danger, requiring residents or hikers to leave without delay. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) advises adhering to evacuation plans, even if the danger isn’t immediately apparent.
