POST FALLS, Idaho — A student was struck and injured by a car in an intersection near Prairie View Elementary School Monday morning, according to Post Falls police.

A release from the police department said the 10-year-old student was crossing 16th Avenue at the intersection with Greensferry when they were hit by a car. The student’s leg was hurt in the collision, and they were taken to Kootenai Health.

The driver, who police said was driving eastbound, told police their vision was blocked by the sun. While police said they were still investigating, no charges had been filed as of Monday morning.

Police warned that drivers should be cognizant of pedestrians and bicyclists, especially in and near school zones.

“Drivers tend to watch for other vehicular traffic, but in many instances, including the one this morning, drivers need to remember they share the road with pedestrians and bicyclist,” a police spokesperson said in a release.
