SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has arrested a man in connection with an overdose death from last year.

According to SCSO, on the evening of Oct. 14, 2023, deputies responded to a report of a dead 67-year-old man found in a home on North Ruby Road. When they arrived, deputies found pills marked with “M” in a bottle. An investigation revealed these Fentanyl pills were counterfeit, commonly known as “mexi’s” or “blues.”

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the victim died from the toxic effects of multiple drugs, including Fentanyl, meth and alcohol.

Spokane County Major Crimes Detectives conducted an investigation and identified a suspect who allegedly delivered the counterfeit Fentanyl pills to the victim the night before his death. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies found incriminating messages exchanged between the suspect and the victim.

The suspect, identified as Randy Brown, 61, has a history of felony convictions and arrests, including possession of controlled substances. Detectives said Brown visited the victim on the evening of Oct. 13, 2023, and has been involved in illegal controlled substance activities, including Fentanyl use and distribution. Brown denied selling drugs to the victim.

On Thursday, U.S. Marshals arrested Brown near East Mission Avenue and North Greene Street. He was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of controlled substance homicide and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Brown’s bond was set at $100,000.
