SPOKANE, Wash. — The suspect who reportedly stabbed his father on Tuesday and was arrested the following day on I-90 has been identified.
According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), officers responded to reports of a around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim died.
Police said they launched an investigation and determined that the suspect who was identified as Damian Eiffert was the son of the victim. They were unable to locate him that day, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant.
., Washington State Patrol (WSP) encountered a car that appeared disabled on westbound I-90 near Cheney. A check of the license plates revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen, with Eiffert as the sole occupant.
Eiffert was reportedly uncooperative with WSP and claimed he had a gun while reaching for his waistband. Due to safety concerns, I-90 was closed in both directions. Multiple law enforcement units responded, including the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, WSP, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Behavioral Health Unit, and the Regional Air Support Unit.
Negotiators attempted to communicate with Eiffert to encourage his surrender, but he remained uncooperative, making threats against law enforcement. He was observed getting in and out of the car with items in his hands. Just after 9 a.m., he fled the vehicle on foot but was detained a short distance away.
Eiffert was taken into custody for second-degree murder. The name of the deceased and the specific cause of death will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
