DEER PARK, Wash. – A SWAT standoff in Deer Park resulted in the death of a suspect on Friday night.

The suspect was a man wanted for first degree rape of a child and was set to appear in court this week according to law enforcement.

The standoff involved a wanted felony suspect who died as a result of a police shooting.

“At no time did the subject cooperate with the team,” Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said.

Stevens County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially made contact with the man at about 2:30 pm, and later requested the assistance of Spokane County.

There were family members in the home who were safely evacuated according to Nowels, who described the suspect as asking officers to shoot him before he was ultimately shot after hours of negotiations.

The incident took place near Highway 395 and Dalton Road.

This is a developing story. More details will appear as available.
