SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane County deputies responded to a shooting call that led to a SWAT standoff.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, on July 30 at about 9:30 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting in a parking lot on the 15600 block of East Sprague.

Deputies spoke with the woman who had been shot. She sustained minor injuries to her hand, likely caused by flying glass when the suspect fired at her car’s driver’s side window. Her two young children, who were also in the car, were unharmed.

The investigation revealed that, in a parking lot on the 16400 block of East Sprague, the suspect had approached the victim’s car, pulled out a pistol, and shot through the driver’s side window, causing it to shatter. Both the suspect and the victim then fled the scene.

The victim drove to a nearby store parking lot and called 911. The suspect arrived there as well, but the victim managed to move to a safer location before the suspect fled.

Deputies recovered a spent pistol casing from the 16400 block of East Sprague Avenue, where the shooting occurred. They later found the suspect’s truck at a home on the 12400 block of East Valleyway Avenue. A perimeter was set up with the help of SWAT and crisis negotiators while awaiting a search warrant.

After obtaining the warrant and failing to contact the suspect, SWAT team members entered the home but did not find the suspect.

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
