POST FALLS, Idaho — A 19-year-old was arrested following a shooting on April 5 that left one person injured.
According to a press release from the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Devin Spring and 18-year-old Ashlan Hjelmstrom are accused of shooting at a car occupied by someone Spring knew, as the vehicle was stopped at a stop sign.
The prosecuting office said Spring used his cellphone to track the victim’s location while he and Hjelmstrom drove around the area until they found the car. The two suspects then parked in front of the car, and Spring exited with a handgun, confronting one of the victims. As the victim’s car began to drive away, Spring allegedly fired at the car, with Hjelmstrom also shooting several times as it fled.
One of the bullets struck a victim in the leg as he drove off. Both victims, police said, were unarmed. Officers said that they quickly responded to the scene and began an investigation. They later located Spring and Hjelmstrom and recovered the two handguns used in the shooting, which had been hidden in a bag at a nearby home, according to the prosecuting office.
Spring, who has a juvenile criminal history involving violent offenses, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Spring was sentenced to a 15-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after four years for aggravated battery and a 15-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after four years for unlawful discharge of an occupied vehicle.
Hjelmstrom was sentenced on Sept.16 and was sent to prison for 10 years with parole eligibility after three years for identical charges.
