UNITED STATES – As Thanksgiving approaches, airports across the country are preparing for a surge in travelers eager to reunite with family and friends. Tens of millions of people are expected to travel over the holiday, coinciding with a storm that is organizing and spreading across several states, bringing rain and snow.

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of a bustling travel season. Cheikh, a traveler heading out for the holiday, shared his thoughts on the situation. “Holiday travel is a pain. It is significantly busier than it was last time I was over here,” he said.

Traveling during the holidays requires patience and sometimes a bit of strategy. Eric Agnew, another Thanksgiving traveler, explained his approach: “We’re flying today, because I don’t know, like the chaos, I guess. Why are we flying today?”

A record number of people are expected to travel this Thanksgiving. More than 71 million people are anticipated to travel by car, while slightly less than six million will take to the skies. Sunday is expected to be the busiest day for air travel, with about 3 million passengers flying.

For those planning to travel by car, the worst time to hit the road is Wednesday afternoon. According to AAA, the best time to return home by car this weekend is before 1:00 p.m.

Agnew offered his own simple advice that he follows for navigating holiday travel: “Follow my wife.”

Most of the country will experience dry but cold weather on Thanksgiving Day, except for the East. Rain is forecasted to stretch from the Southeast to the Northeast, with light snow expected in the inland areas of the Northeast and Northern New England.
