MEAD, Wash. — Spokane County deputies arrested three suspects—two adults and one teen—after they allegedly attempted to steal auto parts from a salvage yard in Mead.
According to a press release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a possible burglary at Pull and Save Auto Parts on North Market Street around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. Security personnel informed deputies that they had seen two suspects on camera: one was looking under cars while the other stood outside the business’s fence.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a car parked near the salvage yard and contacted the driver, later identified as Lauryn McIntosh, 18. She claimed she was out of gas and waiting for her mother. Deputies observed two dirty tires in the backseat of her car, which she said she needed to replace and had owned for a few days.
McIntosh insisted she was unaware of anyone being at Pull and Save. When asked to activate her gas gauge, it showed that her tank was half full. Deputies then detained her.
Minutes later, deputies located a second suspect, Alex Straub, 18, hiding behind a tree a short distance from McIntosh’s car. He provided the name of a third suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, but did not know his whereabouts. Near Straub, deputies found multiple headlights on the ground and two tires that matched those in McIntosh’s car.
The juvenile suspect was discovered curled up on the ground next to the fence. Deputies noted a large hole in the fence near his location. As they escorted him back to the patrol cars, he claimed he had been sleeping while waiting for his sister, Lauryn, to pick him up.
Based on the evidence and statements collected, deputies determined there was probable cause to charge all three suspects with second-degree burglary, second-degree malicious mischief, and criminal conspiracy. McIntosh and Straub were transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail, while the juvenile was taken to the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for the same charges.
