SPOKANE, Wash. – Shadle Park High School is hosting Trades Night tonight, inviting the community to learn how to operate equipment and power tools from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The event is part of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) initiative to shift perceptions about construction careers, especially for those fresh out of high school. This initiative aims to show the many career possibilities that construction presents.
Jordan Bezold, who attended Trades Night a few years back, says it had a lasting impact on his future. Bezold graduated from high school in 2018 and was uncertain about his career path. He had tried different jobs, including working as a bus-boy and a caregiver, but hadn’t found the right fit.
Then, Bezold attended Trades Night, where he operated a boom lift. That experience led him to a fulfilling job, utilizing the skills he gained during that event.
“If you’re afraid of heights…it’s probably the best test you’ll ever see if you’re afraid of heights or not going up in those,” Bezold said. “But with DIFCON, I do concrete patching with them so I work on a boom lift nearly every single day.”
Bezold emphasizes that one trip to Trades Night changed his life and set him on a successful career path.
Attendees tonight will have the chance to operate equipment and gain firsthand experience. This event showcases how initiatives like Trades Night can provide meaningful career opportunities for young people.
