COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Nearly 2,000 athletes are bound for Coeur d’Alene Sunday for the annual Ironman triathlon.
“It’s got a big regional draw. But we have over 18 countries represented and 48 states,” Tim Brosious, the Ironman Operations Director, said.
Brosious told NonStop Local that the large turnout will have a positive impact on local businesses, especially restaurants.
“Lots of full hotels and full restaurants this week. Lots of people carb-loading,” Brosious said.
The Coeur d’Alene resort is preparing for the influx of hotel guests and restaurant-goers.
It is a common tradition to eat spaghetti on the eve of an Ironman.
Both Tito’s Italian Grille and Dockside Restaurant, two businesses inside the resort, will be having pasta specials.
Tito’s will be having a “Triathlete Weekend Special” with all-you-can-eat pasta for $19.99 and a Triathlete Take-Away 12″ pizza for $20.
Dockside will be having the “Finish Line Fuel” special, which is an endless pasta buffet for $29.99.
Meanwhile, traffic backups are expected Sunday due to the road closures.
