SPOKANE, Wash. – Detours are planned for Wellesley Avenue between Market and Freya Streets from May 28 to June 3.
According to the City of Spokane, the detours will allow Washington Department of Transportation crews to conduct maintenance work on the avenue. The city offered additional details on alternate routes which can be found below.
“What to Expect:
Travel obstructions on east and west Bigelow Gulch Rd., Upriver Dr. and Wellesley Ave.
North Spokane Corridor southbound lanes are closed between the Freya St. interchange and Wellesley St. interchange. Southbound drivers will have to exit at Francis Ave. and northbound drivers will have to exit at Wellesley Ave.
Haven St. is reduced to one lane southbound between Columbia Ave. and Rockwell Ave.
Alternate Routes Westbound:
Argonne Rd. west on Upriver Dr., north on Freya St., west on Euclid Ave. to Market St.
Westbound on Trent Ave. or Sprague Ave.
Westbound I-90 to Hamilton St. exit
Northbound Argonne Rd. to Stoneman Rd. or Bruce Rd.
Alternate Routes Eastbound:
Market St. to east Euclid Ave, south on Freya St., east on Upriver Dr. to Argonne Rd.
Eastbound on Trent Ave. or Sprague Ave.
Eastbound I-90 to Argonne Rd. exit
Stoneman Rd. or Bruce Rd. to southbound Argonne Rd.”
The southbound lanes of Washington Street between North River Drive and Spokane Falls Boulevard will close starting June 3. It is unclear when they will reopen, but the city says the closure will allow for the replacement of expansion joints.
“What to Expect:
Drivers traveling south on Washington St. will be detoured just south of Boone Ave. at W. North River Dr. and east to Division St.
Drivers traveling north on Washington St. will experience back-ups with one lane of traffic between Spokane Falls Blvd. and Boone Ave.
Alternate Route:
Drivers are encouraged to use Division St., Monroe St., and Ash St. for southbound travel into downtown from north Spokane.”
