WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tulsi Gabbard, nominated by Donald Trump to be the country’s top intelligence official, has been meeting with lawmakers for further evaluation by senators.
Gabbard, a former Democrat, has become a controversial figure due to her shift in support toward Trump. Her past sympathetic views toward Russia and Syria’s exiled president have also drawn attention.
Congressman Ryan Zinke of Montana shared his thoughts on Gabbard’s confirmation.
“What I like about Tulsi is she’s a military background. She’s certainly talented and she understands the dynamics. She also understands President Trump. President Trump has his own set of ideas, “Zinke said.
“Tulsi will work at the pleasure of the president. And so she’ll tighten up where we’re going as a country and in the administration. So I’m confident that she will get confirmed,” Zinke added, noting there are areas he disagrees with Tulsi before stating he thinks she will “serve well.”
In an exclusive interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, Trump expressed confidence in Gabbard’s confirmation, calling her “a very respected person.”
