Two Grant County K-9 deputies retire early

From Grant County Sheriff Joe Kriete:

It is with great sadness I let you know about a couple of early retirements from the agency. Effective immediately, Deputy K-9 Hawk and Deputy K-9 Edo will be retired.

Deputy Voss and Cpl. De La Rosa have been phenomenal handlers of their partners for several years. Thank you both for your dedication to our K-9 program, the Sheriff’s Office, and the citizens of Grant County. These two 4-legged deputies are responsible for several apprehensions and tracks throughout their careers. I’m very grateful for all they have given us, Deputy Voss and Deputy De La Rosa.

Cpl. De La Rosa has retired from being a K-9 handler after almost 10 years. He has worked with K-9 Grizzly and K-9 Hawk during his tenure. David helped start our K-9 program, helped create the Columbia Basin K-9 Foundation, and was part of many demonstrations and other K-9 events across Grant County.

K-9 Edo and Deputy Voss have been together for 6½ years. Recently K-9 Edo has had some medical issues that have forced him to an early retirement. The good thing is it’s not painful to him.

As we all know, Edo’s social personality has made him the go-to partner for many many events in Grant County. Anytime we want to showcase our program, Edo is always at the front to get as many scratches as he can get. But when it’s time for work, don’t get in his way. Edo is one of the most athletic K-9s I’ve ever seen and when it’s “go time”, there is no messing around.

I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your devoted dedication to our program and Grant County. Deputy Voss, Deputy K-9 Edo, Cpl. De La Rosa, and Deputy K-9 Hawk: you have pushed our K-9 program to the next level and have set the bar extremely high for the next generation of handlers. Thank you all for your service.

In retirement, Hawk will be living with Cpl. De La Rosa and family, and Edo will be living with Deputy Voss and family.
