SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Spokane Valley firefighters extinguished a fire burning a motorhome Sunday night, with two people injured due to smoke inhalation.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD), firefighters were called around 9:30 p.m. to a fully engulfed motorhome, where two people were believed to be inside.
Medical units arrived first and provided care to the two residents and their dog, all of whom were suffering from smoke inhalation. The injured individuals were transported to a local hospital.
Firefighters began battling the blaze upon arrival, using 1,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
SVFD investigators said that they determined the cause of the fire was a blanket placed too close to a propane space heater inside the motorhome.
With falling temperatures, SVFD is reminding residents to keep objects at least three feet away from any heating source and to ensure their homes have working smoke alarms.
