SPOKANE, Wash. – Vanessa Waldref, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, is set to step down from her role at the end of January.
This transition aligns with the traditional practice of appointing new leaders for federal agencies with an incoming presidential administration.
Following Waldref’s departure, Richard Barker, the First Assistant United States Attorney, will assume the position of Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. This change is in accordance with the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
Reflecting on Waldref’s tenure, Barker said, “In a little more than three years, Vanessa has done more than some prosecutors achieve in a lifetime. Her contributions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office will live on for years to come.”
