U.S. investigates engine failures in Honda and Acura models

UNITED STATES – U.S. auto safety regulators are investigating potential engine failures in up to 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is focusing on several models, including the 2016-2020 Honda Pilot, Acura MDX, 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, Acura TLX, and 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline.

The NHTSA reports that connecting rod bearings in these cars may fail, potentially leading to complete engine failure. In 2023, Honda recalled about 250,000 vehicles to address this issue. However, the agency has received 173 complaints from owners who experienced bearing failures but whose vehicles were not part of the recall. Honda has stated that it will cooperate with the NHTSA on this investigation.
