MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho has announced it is pausing any decisions regarding the closure of its equity and diversity offices. This comes in response to a resolution by the Idaho Board of Education to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs at public universities.
In an email to students, the university emphasized its cautious approach, stating, “it doesn’t want to act too quickly.” The discussions arise amid a nationwide backlash against DEI programs, reflecting broader debates on the role of such initiatives in education.
While the University of Idaho deliberates on its next steps, Idaho state legislators are also facing a significant decision. A citizens committee on legislative compensation has approved a proposal to increase their annual pay from $19,913 to $25,000.
However, the Idaho Capital Sun reports that legislators are divided on the issue. The upcoming legislative session, beginning January 6 in Boise, will give legislators the opportunity to reject or reduce the proposed pay increase.
The decision on this matter remains pending as discussions continue.
