SEATTLE, Wash.-A University of Washington program is helping rural Montana residents access dental care.

The University of Washington’s School of Dentistry has partnered with the USDA to bring dental care to rural areas of Montana, including on the Northern Cheyenne and Crow Indian Reservations.

The Regional Initiatives in Dental Education or RIDE program has been in operation for the past 12 years and works to train and prepare dentists dedicated to serving rural and tribal populations.

After receiving a grant from the USDA, the RIDE program has expanded to allow senior dental students to go on learning rotations in regions in both Washington and Montana.

According to UW, the grant, worth $1.1 million, will pay for equipment to allow for remote dental consultations, translation services and support.
