OLYMPIA, Wash. – Dave Upthegrove (D) is leading in the Commissioner of Public Lands race in Washington with 53.1 percent of the vote over Jaime Herrera Beutler (R) with 46.9 percent of the vote.
The winner will take over for current Commissioner Hilary Franz (D), who did not file for re-election and lost in the Democratic primary election to represent Washington’s 6th Congressional District.
Herrera Beutler was previously a member of the U.S. House representing Washington’s 3rd Congressional District from 2011 to 2023. She led the nonpartisan primary election with 22 percent of the vote, 1.2 percent more than Upthegrove and Sue Kuehl Pederson (R).
Upthegrove is currently a member of the King County Council for District 5 and has been since 2014. He got into the general election after a tight race, beating out Kuehl Pederson by only 49 votes in the nonpartisan primary election.
