SPOKANE, Wash. – The US Forest Service has allocated about $600,000 to wildfire readiness in eastern Washington.
The newly announced funding boost will allocate $275,000 to wildfire recovery efforts in Spokane County for private owners. According to the Forest Service, the project will assist around 20 landowners to recover .
“This highly collaborative project will integrate environmental justice and science-based forest restoration strategies on 450 acres,” the Forest Service said.
An additional $300,000 will be utilized to clear fire hazards from private land in Pend Oreille county. About 35,000 acres will fall under a wider Forest Action Plan to reduce potential wildfire fuels across the county.
