MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal Healing and Memorial Garden will officially open on Aug. 21 with a special dedication ceremony for four students who were murdered in an off-campus home in 2022.
The healing garden has been designed and built by students with the emphasis of using the new space as a place for reflecting and honoring the memories of students who have died while attending the University of Idaho.
A memorial sculpture will specifically memorialize the four victims Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves and Maddie Mogen.
The dedication is open to the public and start at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The garden is placed on the MacLean Field between the education and human sciences building.
“The garden is an incredible reflection of our students and how much they have cared about this project,” Dean of Student Blaine Eckles said. “It is a legacy that will outlast any of our time here.”
