Volunteers at Hoopfest set up hundreds of courts

SPOKANE, Wash. – On Friday night at 7 p.m., crews will build 373 courts for Hoopfest in about 3 hours. Here’s how they make it happen:

It starts with semi-trucks that have to make sure they put the hoops close enough to their courts for the forklift drivers to take them where they need to be.

They also have to make sure the right sponsors are in the right places.

That’s when tape crews come by and mark the courts, after everything else is squared away.

For those who love Hoopfest, sometimes the anticipation is too much to contain.

“It’s pretty exciting because we don’t even get to finish raising the hoops by the time people are shooting on them. People get that excited,” said Stephen Opland with Hoopfest. “It’s just the magic of Hoopfest seeing that all come together.”

If that all seems like a lot of work, that’s because it is, especially for only 7 employees who are on their team.

Thankfully, there are hundreds of volunteers in the community who help out. If you want to volunteer, CLICK HERE:
