Volunteers build homes for wildfire victims in Medical Lake

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. – Volunteers in Medical Lake are constructing new homes for residents who lost theirs in last year’s Gray and Oregon Road wildfires, which destroyed over 300 homes.

The Spokane Region Long Term Recovery Group, a nonprofit formed in response to the fires, is leading the effort, currently building eight homes.

One of the homes under construction is an 800-square-foot house with two bedrooms and a bathroom. The goal is to complete the exterior frames before winter.

Medical Lake Mayor Terri Cooper has stated that the cost of supplies for these homes exceeds half a million dollars.

The mayor is seeking public donations to fund additional home construction and address ongoing needs of fire victims.

Those still in need of assistance are encouraged to contact the local Salvation Army, and donations can be made here
