SPOKANE, Wash. – Army COL Daniel Dudek was wounded by an explosive in Iraq in 2007, sustaining an incomplete spinal cord injury. Volunteers gathered to help him landscape his home Saturday to honor his remarkable service to his nation.

Homes for Our Troops, a national organization that helps veterans build homes for injured veterans, organized the volunteer event. Crews of volunteers helped put down sod and plant vegetation.

“One of the things that I learned very quickly was that, as an artillery officer you’re focused on your job and trying to be proficient at that, you have no idea of the good will and amazing people that Americans are and the charity they give,” Dudek said. “You see why this is such a great nation to be a part of.”

There are 68 Homes for Our Troops projects ongoing throughout the US according to the organization. More information on Dudek and his military service can be found here.
