Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police cited two men for trespassing after they allegedly harvested 179 pounds of chanterelle mushrooms illegally.
The men were purportedly on a property with a truck when they were approached by police. After an inspection, they were found to have allegedly harvested mushrooms without a license.
According to the department, wild edible mushrooms cannot be harvested in quantities over 5 gallons without a specialized forest products permit.
“The mushrooms were taken to a buyer and sold with the proceeds being held by the court.,” Fish and Wildlife said.
