OLYMPIA, Wash. – Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal faces a 2024 election opponent who has raked-in $100,000 more in campaign contributions than him so far.

Reid Saaris, a contender for Washington’s highest educational office and a teacher at Rainier Beach High School, has accrued approximately $213,800 in campaign contributions as of April 15.

Reykdal, a two-term incumbent, has received about $102,800 in campaign contributions.

The discrepancy in financial support has impacted campaign expenditures. Reykdal’s campaign has spent $35,400 compared to nearly $94,000 in spending by Saaris.

While Saaris has received a larger pool of campaign contributions, his support has mostly come from individual donors.

Reykdal’s donor base includes more union and PAC contributions, as well as a combination of individual and business donations.

As the race for Superintendent of Public Instructions continues, political observers will likely monitor whether the current imbalance in campaign contributions continues.
