Washington and Idaho ACT scores exceed the national average

WASHINGTON/IDAHO – Many universities no longer require ACT or SAT scores for college applications. Nevertheless, every year, high school students continue taking these tests.

In Washington and Idaho, despite not being widely taken, students who participate score well compared to the national average.

According to the ACT organization, the national average score is 19.4. In comparison, Washington students who took the test achieved an average score of 24.5, while Idaho students scored 23.3.

Only 5% of 2024 Washington graduates took the test, alongside 10% of their peers in Idaho.

In Idaho and Washington, students’ performance exceeded many others across the nation.

Data from the ACT shows 12 States had higher average scores than Washington. But five of those states had a lower percentage of students taking the test.

The data suggests that states with fewer students taking the test tend to have higher overall scores. This trend indicates the scores would likely drop if more students from Washington and Idaho choose to take the ACT.
