OLYMPIA, Wash. – A cohort of six attorneys general including Washington’s Bob Ferguson (D) have filed a lawsuit against Regeneron Pharmaceuticals alleging that the company inflated Medicaid charges.
Ferguson’s office says that Regeneron charged Medicaid inflated prices for Eylea, a drug that prevents the degeneration of the eye.
“The scheme resulted in the submission of tens of thousands of false claims to Medicaid and millions of dollars in losses to the states,” the attorney general’s office told media outlets Friday.
The states of Colorado, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas and Washington all allege that Regeneron improperly handled charging joint federal-state Medicaid programs, purportedly causing thousands of dollars of losses to taxpayers.
The full complaint, which was filed in the US District Court of Massachusetts, can be found on the Attorney General’s website.
A separate federal lawsuit leveling similar allegations was filed against Regeneron by the US Justice Department earlier this year.
