Washington community colleges face potential $28.5M funding loss

SPOKANE, Wash. – Washington’s community college system could lose $28.5 million in state funding due to an error by state budget writers. Leaders are determined to address this issue.

In a special meeting this week, members of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges warned that Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College could be affected by layoffs and program cuts.

The board is submitting a request for an increase in funding or a boost in its college affordability program.

“We are doing everything in our power to fix this error and protect our colleges,” said a board member.

Without this adjustment, community colleges might face difficult times ahead. The board emphasized its commitment to secure necessary funds for maintaining educational quality and access.

Further updates will be provided as this situation develops.
