OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced updates to the Fish Washington application.

The free application is available on Apple iOS and Android devices. It is designed to relay up-to-date fishing regulations for every Washington lake, river, stream and marine area. WDFW said the updates are aimed at anglers to improve finding and navigating regulations.

WDFW said the updated version is ad-free, and issues reported by IOS and Android users were fixed.

“Following a testing process in winter 2024, the new version is designed to run more smoothly while using less data and device memory,” WDFW said. “Developers completely rewrote the app’s code, which now features a single code base for both iOS and Android platforms. This means a smaller app size, less frequent updates, and fewer bugs.”

WDFW said the updated version of the Fish Washington app significantly improves the user interface and functionality. It now includes location-enabled river gauges, consistent emergency regulation delivery, and map upgrades. This version will show the full water body name and description on emergency regulation cards, making navigating and understanding the fishing regulations easier.

If the user is connected to data, they can access National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) tidal predictions for marine waters and portions of the Columbia River, along with river gauges from multiple data providers.

“Anglers should see several improvements with the new version of the Fish Washington app,” said Jacob Shapely, lead mobile developer with WDFW. “The single code base resolves several bugs, particularly with the Android app. Users will have fewer issues, and we hope they enjoy using new features.”
