OLYMPIA, Wash. – Former President Donald Trump as his running mate on Monday. Washington Democrats condemned the decision while avoiding inflammatory language after against Trump.

Vance is known for his stringent opposition to immigration and his endorsement of the “great replacement” theory of racial demography promoted by white supremacist groups. He is also well-known for his conversion to Roman Catholicism in 2019.

The Washington Democratic Party Chair Shasti Conrad slammed the decision and argued that Vance’s politics are in-line from the path of a future Trump White House.

“We know that JD Vance will stop at nothing to enact Trump’s Project 2025 agenda that will hit American families in their pocketbooks and restrict the rights and freedoms we have today,” Conrad said.

Idaho Democratic Party Executive Director Jared DeLoof mirrored Conrad’s language by highlighting project 2025 and reproductive freedoms,

“Vance has openly embraced Trump’s divisive Project 2025 agenda, advocating for policies that threaten reproductive freedoms, rip health care protections away from thousands of Idahoans, and hurt middle-class families,” DeLoof said.

US Senator Patty Murray has emerged as one of the in the national legislature. She also honed-in on Vance’s opposition to reproductive rights in a Monday evening social media post.

“J.D. Vance is a political opportunist who is for deficit-busting tax cuts for billionaires and a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions. Another MAGA Republican who wants to let billionaires run this country and tell women how to run their lives. No thanks,” Murray said.

The Washington GOP responded to Murray’s post with an image of Vance and Trump and a defiant message.

“More…stale talking points from Patty Murray. It’s been two days since the assassination attempt on Pres. Trump, and she is resuming her vitriol. Nothing will stop the Trump-Vance ticket,” the party said.

Vance’s ascendance to the vice presidential nomination marks a shift toward the right for Trump. While more moderate choices were optioned by his campaign, after an assassination attempt that super-charged his base and Republicans are more confident heading into this week’s national GOP convention.
