WASHINGTON D.C.- From the Simple Life to Washington D.C. Paris Hilton is making headlines for a major piece of legislation she’s been working on, passing the senate overnight.

“The Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act,” stems from abuse that Hilton herself received while she was in a facility at a young age.

Senator Patty Murray was a huge supporter of it and helped push it through the Senate where it passed unanimously.

Murray cosponsored “The Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act,” over the last few years we’ve seen Hilton get involved in trying to make residential care facilities safer and abuse free following her own experience where she was abused in facilities in Montana, Utah, and California.

It has parallel legislation in the house, originally authored by Congressman Ro Khanna from California, the house bill travels through Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ committee.

“The Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, which I am leading in the House, will help reform a system that has failed children and their families for too long. Now that it has passed the Senate, the House needs to vote on it next week. I am passionately advocating with House leadership to get this done,” said Rep. Ro Khanna.

With her support to leadership a vote could be called in the house.

Via email Paris Hilton’s team sent a statement to Nonstop Local from Hilton saying:

“I am praying that the U.S House of Representatives passes this bill in the next week! They have the power to pass this to ensure we begin to collect life-saving data on the youth residential treatment industry to protect youth. I have had the amazing opportunity to get to know Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers through my advocacy and am deeply grateful for her leadership on this issue. I am praying everyone can come together and turn this bill into law!”

Hilton’s organization visited Spokane and met with local survivors along with the congresswoman many times.

There’s only a few days are left in the legislative session and now all eyes are on the house to see how they act.

Hilton was instrumental in changing legislation in the State of Montana during the previous legislative session surrounding residential treatment facilities by way of House Bill 218 which was signed into law by the Montana Governor Greg Gianforte.
