OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington state lawmakers and candidates took to social media on Monday to offer their reflections on Memorial Day.

Governor Jay Inslee (D) and his wife thanked military families for their role in preserving democracy.

“Join Trudi and me in honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our democracy. We are grateful to them, and to their families. May the fallen never be forgotten,” Inslee said.

Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Bob Ferguson (D) illustrated his family’s military roots and thanked members of the armed services.

“My father and my grandfathers showed me what it means to serve courageously and selflessly. In order to keep us safe, our military service members sacrifice their own safety, their comfort, and time with their families,” Ferguson said.

Fellow gubernatorial candidate Dave Reichert (R) also offered a Memorial Day message thanking military members and their loved ones.

“On this Memorial Day, we thank those who gave their life for our freedoms. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Reichert said.

Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck (D) spoke at a Memorial Day event in Olympia today, and offered his appreciation to the military families who attended.

“It is truly a pleasure to be part of this crowd this morning, to remember and honor our fallen heroes who had preserved our nation’s independence, freedom, and democracy,” Heck said.

Memorial Day events took place around the Evergreen State and the wider Inland Northwest Monday. Additional coverage can be found here on NonStop Local.
