Washington parties and civic organizations react to Harris’s VP pick

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race Tuesday. Democrats around Washington were quick to celebrate the pick.

The Washington State Democratic Party offered its support for Walz via social media shortly after Harris’s announcement.

“VP Kamala Harris has chosen the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as her running mate!! Let’s go win this!” the party said.

a group of Democratic delegates seeking to bring attention to Israel’s actions in Gaza which expressed hope for Walz’s impact.

“With the selection of Governor Walz as her running mate, I am now more hopeful that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will listen to the 83% of Democrats who want a ceasefire,” Washington Democratic delegate Rami Al-Kabra said.

Nonpartisan organization Save the Children Action Network, focused on promoting education funding and overcoming child funder, applauded Walz Tuesday.

“The choice of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as Democratic VP candidate-designee has renewed interest in child hunger and education, given Minnesota’s efforts to provide free school meals…for Minnesota students,” Lead Associate Louisa Spofford said.

Former President Donald Trump similarly to when he falsely accused former President Barack Obama of not being an American citizen throughout the mid-2010s.

Washington’s GOP took a less targeted approach to criticizing Walz in an all-caps social media post.

“HARRIS-WALZ IS THE MOST FAR-LEFT RADICAL TICKET IN AMERICAN HISTORY,” the party said.

Harris focused on uniting both her party and the broader voting public when announcing Walz Tuesday.

“We love this nation and together, we will fight to build the future that people deserve,” Harris said.
