OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Commerce has announced awarding $40 million in grants to various cities and counties across the state, including Spokane County.
This funding, made possible by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, aims to establish and enhance local programs subsidizing households and small businesses purchasing and installing high-efficiency electric equipment.
“From heat domes to many days of below-freezing temperatures, tens of thousands of Washington residents are put at risk each year by these increasing weather extremes,” said Commerce Director Mike Fong. “Investing these Climate Commitment Act funds gives communities more opportunities to start or increase incentive programs that will help reduce the use of fossil fuels and create healthier, more resilient, and energy-efficient homes and buildings through electrification.”
The grants will benefit multiple eastern Washington counties, organizations, and cities, including $1.5 million allocated to Spokane County, $1.1 million to Grant County Public District 2, $1 million to the City of Chewelah, $750,000 to the Spokane Indian Housing Authority and $575,000 to the City of Airway Heights.
