OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Democratic Party congratulated President Joe Biden on his primary win on Tuesday night.

Party Chair Shasti Conrad issued a statement following the president’s win.

“Tonight’s result demonstrates the overwhelming support in our state for President Biden and Vice President Harris’ vision for America. An America where we lift each other up, defend our hard won civil rights, and commit ourselves to a Democratic future that respects the rule of law,” Conrad said.

Biden clinched his party’s nomination earlier today when he won the Georgia Democratic primary, and had no major challengers this year. The president pitched his policies to voters during his State of the Union address on March 7.

“President Biden’s State of the Union laid out what’s at stake in this election. This is a battle for the soul of our nation and we are full steam ahead towards November and Democratic victories up and down the ballot,” Conrad said.

While Biden did not face a significant opponent from his party this year, he has contended with growing disillusionment amongst progressives in his party for his handling of the crisis in Gaza, including a campaign encouraging primary voters to select “uncommitted” rather than the president.

As of the publishing of this article, “uncommitted” took second place in the Democratic primary with just 7.5 percent of the vote with 79 percent of votes counted.

Biden sat at 86.7 percent of support as of 9 pm on March 12 according to the Associated Press.

According to a Morning Consult poll of over 6,000 voters conducted in early March, Biden is slightly behind his Republican challenger, former president Donald Trump.
