SPOKANE, Wash. – Oct. 7 marks 25 years since Washington State Patrol Trooper James Saunders was killed in the line of duty. He was posthumously awarded the WSP Medal of Honor.
Saunders was shot during a traffic stop in Pasco after serving the State of Washington for over 8 years.
According to WSP, Saunders’ wife now lives in Renton, his son attended University of Washington and his daughter is currently at Gonzaga Law School.
A memorial garden to honor Saunders’ service was dedicated in Union gap in 2022.
